Death and Other Dances is a semi-autobiographical book by Harvey that chronicles the life and struggles of a biracial Detroit girl named Autumn Franklin. The novel tells how Franklin survives being alienated due to her background and taking her life into her own hands. She makes someone out of herself by moving to the City of Angels, Los Angeles. Franklin struggles to leave the adult entertainment industry and becomes a mortician, where she then truly understands what it is to live whilst working among the dead.
